Several days later, chorionic villi in the forming placenta anchor the implantation site to the uterus. At the same time, the bottom layer forms a small sac (if the cells begin developing in an abnormal position, an ectopic gestation may also occur at this point). The top layer becomes the embryo, and cells from there occupy the amniotic cavity. The inner cell mass of the blastocyst divides rapidly, forming two layers. This is the first stage in the growth of the placenta. The cells surrounding the blastocyst now destroy cells in the uterine lining, forming small pools of blood, which in turn stimulate the production of capillaries. The cells on the exterior of the blastocyst begin excreting an enzyme which erodes epithelial uterine lining and creates a site for implantation. In 24 to 48 hours, the zona pellucida breaches. The presence of the blastocyst means that two types of cells are forming, an inner-cell mass growing on the interior of the blastocele and cells growing on the exterior of it. This new structure with a cavity in the center and the developing cells around it is known as a blastocyst. Cells grow increasingly smaller to fit in. Then, a flat layer cell forms on the exterior of this cavity, and the zona pellucida, the blastocyst's barrier, remains the same size as before. The reversal of long-term acyclicity and a resulting pregnancy that represents two original founders is particularly significant for the genetic diversity of the Australasian population of white rhinoceros.14 fetuses showing stages of embryo development in the African elephant After implantation Ī blastocele is a small cavity on the center of the embryo, and the developing embryonary cells will grow around it. Fecal progestogen monitoring of reproductive status and pregnancy combined with behaviour observations has provided valuable information for breeding management decisions and planning for parturition in this population. Two females exhibited seasonal acyclic periods characterized by low progestogen concentrations corresponding to decreasing daylength (autumn and winter months). Fecal progestogen concentrations were useful for diagnosing pregnancy after 3 months gestation with concentrations four times higher than luteal phase concentrations by 9 to 12 weeks after mating (n = 3). Recently, early embryonic loss was determined by ultrasound in the young female having a long 70 day cycle determined by fecal analysis. The young captive-born female continued to have regular length cycles and mating was observed with the new male. Within two months of arrival the long-term acyclic female had resumed cycling and had conceived six months after introduction of the new male. In 2007, the social structure of the Hamilton Zoo rhinoceros group was altered by exchanging the breeding male and two male offspring for a wild-caught male from Auckland Zoo. The absence of breeding behavior and low progestogen concentrations for an extended 4-year period was cause for concern for the Australasian Species Management Programme managers (Hermes R et al. In the non-reproducing adult female, long cycles (67.2 ± 1.3 days, n = 5) were detected in addition to regular cycles (31.9 ± 0.9 days, n = 13) during the first 3 years in captivity, consistent with previous reports (Schwarzenberger F et al. Four pregnancies were confirmed in one female with a sex ratio of 1 female to 3 males (including 1 male loss at an estimated 5 months of gestation), known gestation lengths were 514 and 507 days. The average length of the reproductive cycle was 31.6 ± 0.6 days (range 26–38 days, n = 34 cycles). Reproductive cycles and pregnancy were characterized using fecal progestogen concentrations, observations of courtship behaviour and parturition dates. Fecal samples were collected 1 to 3 times per week from females (n = 3) for several periods (5 to 24 months) between 20. 5 to 6 years at import) and a female born in 2000 (conceived in the wild). We report on the breeding success of two females (est. You can add sugar to the peaches if you like.Make individual peach crisps by dividing the peaches and topping between small ramekins.Pie filling is already thickened with cornstarch and won't clump. For a thicker filling, use canned peach pie filling.Once the filling cools, it will start to form gelatin-like chunks. I find cornstarch works fine with frozen fruit, but it doesn't translate well to canned fruit. Step 6: Bake until the top is golden brown and the peaches are hot and bubbling, about 35 minutes. You can freeze any leftovers for another time. I find everyone differs on their desired amount of topping. Step 5: Spread the crumble evenly on top of the peaches. You can also pulse it in a food processor if you don't want to use your hands! Use clean hands or a pastry cutter to work the butter into the flour mixture until it forms into a crumble. Step 4: Add the cold butter pieces to the flour mixture. Step 3: Combine the flour, oats, sugar, brown sugar, and kosher salt in a large bowl. Be sure you thoroughly drain the peaches so they don't release too much liquid. Step 2: Pour the drained peaches into the baking dish. Spray an 8x8-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray or grease it with butter. Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. And this canned peach recipe with canned peaches is just that - simple! Here's what you need to do: The older I get, the more I appreciate simplicity. How to make a peach crisp with canned peaches Old fashioned oats add texture and a slight oatey flavor.Īll-purpose flour - To bind the crumble so the butter doesn't just melt into a soft topping. Oats - It isn't a crisp without oats IMHO. If you only have table salt, cut the amount in half. Kosher salt - A little bit of salt enhances sweetness. You can add a tablespoon to the peaches if you like, but I don't think they need it. Sugar & brown sugar - A combination of sugar and brown sugar sweeten the topping! I prefer more brown than white for a caramel-like sweetness. Be sure to use cold butter to achieve granola-sized chunks of oatey crisp on top! I always use unsalted butter so my crisp isn't too salty. Be sure to thoroughly drain the peaches first!īutter - Butter is essential for the crumble. The difference is marginal and thus both work great. Key IngredientsĬanned peaches - I've tested this recipe with canned peaches in light syrup and in heavy syrup. It has a buttery crumb topping with oats and brown sugar, plus it's easy to customize! Add pecans, walnuts, or coconut for a tasty spin on a classic. However, sometimes I don't have the luxury of fresh peaches and that's when canned peaches save the day! This canned peach crisp is super simple and full of peach flavor. I adore fresh peak-season, juicy peaches! I'd give up my left pinky for one on a hot summer day. This peach crisp with canned peaches is a breeze to make! No peeling, slicing, or pitting required. It's made with simple ingredients and pantry staples. A quick and easy peach crisp with canned peaches! Sweet yellow peaches are topped with a buttery crumb topping then baked until golden. Articles published from 1986 to 2012 were included in this review. In order to provide a general overview, we performed PubMed and PubMed central search to review relevant articles in English literature based on “effects of hydrotherapy/balneotherapy” on various systems of the body. There are many studies/reviews that reported either physiological or therapeutic or combination of both the effects of hydrotherapy on particular system but did not report in all the major systems of the body, which made us to do this review with the aim and objective to report scientific evidenced-based effects of hydrotherapy on various systems of the body. Though many countries used water to produce different physiological/therapeutic effects on different part of the system for maintaining health, preventing, and treating the diseases, the scientific evidence-based effects are not well documented. Mumford said he’s always wanted to serve his community, so growing his hair is another way to support the community. Though these Tigers are buying into the flow, for two of them their long hair is more about giving back than being in style. “I really don’t know where it stems from, but it’s just become an image.” “I definitely think it’s part of the culture of lacrosse,” he said. Junior attacker Ryan Drenner said he grew up having long hair, but in the lacrosse world his hair seems to be a focal point. Towson’s men’s lacrosse team has a few players buying into the flow. Most delivery post offices (the ones which have a postman to deliver mails) have the facility. To get a post box, you can approach the post office that usually delivers mails to your address. All correspondence except registered/insured/value payable articles will be delivered to the post box. They are only for receiving incoming mail. Postboxes are similar to bank lockers and are located within post offices. Mumbai-based RTI activist Krishnaraj Rao adds, “Section 6(2) was earlier open to interpretation, and authorities sometimes insisted on getting personal details of the applicant.” He says that there may be officers who are still unaware of the circular, but then activists can now educate them by showing them the circular or attaching it with their application.Īny person or organisation can get a post box by paying a rent of Rs 150 per year or Rs 50 per quarter-year. This would be quick and easy – the cost of photocopying and sending documents would also be cut,” says Goenka. “If a person has given his address or post box number in the application, the authority can send their responses and documents to his email id. In mid-January, Goenka sent a petition to the Ministry of Personnel, requesting that RTI replies be sent to applicants via email. Pic: Farzana Cooper (India Together Files) The High Court said in its order that where the legislature was of the opinion that applicants did not have to disclose personal information, authorities should not insist on the same. Section 6(2) of the RTI Act, 2005, clearly says that applicants should not be asked to give any personal detail, except what is needed to contact them. The Bench of Acting Chief Justice Ashim Kumar Banerjee and Justice Debangsu Basak consequently passed the order, which, in effect, is only an explicit clarification on the existing law. Goenka then submitted his petition to the Calcutta High Court, after removing the reference to emails. It also said that allowing applications through email could lead to misuse of RTI, as anybody would be able to send applications from anywhere. The SC had said that it could not give any directions on this, as law-and-order was a state subject. Goenka had initially filed the PIL at the Supreme Court in 2012, praying that applications should be allowed to file RTIs using both post box number and email for the sake of safety of applicants. Speaking to India Together, he says that activists may still get identified, but that this order may at least bring down the number of such cases. He has earlier won court orders in many PILs, including those on removal of tinted glass from vehicle windows, mandatory address verification for prepaid mobile connections etc. Goenka is not an RTI activist in fact, he describes himself as a PIL activist. The order came on the back of a PIL filed by Avishek Goenka asking that authorities should not insist on full address of an applicant, when a post box number may effectively conceal his identity. In the order, the court had also said that government agencies should not reveal applicants’ details, especially on their websites. Government departments can insist on full address, only if they have any difficulty with the post box number. Backed by this, an applicant can now file an application using only his name, post box number, post office name and PIN code. On 8 January, the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) under the Ministry, issued a memorandum about the court order to all state and central government ministries and organisations. The court had ordered the central government’s Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions to circulate a copy of the order among all concerned. The order says that applicants need not mention their full address in applications instead they can simply mention their post box number. However, a ruling by the Calcutta High Court last November, brings some hope as it assures better confidentiality for RTI applicants. But little has changed and the protagonists continue to live in fear. These are only two names in a long list of victims.Īctivist groups have repeatedly demanded government action in such cases, and also police protection for those under threat. In 2010, Gujarat-based activist Amit Jethwa (33) was shot dead after he filed court cases about illegal mining in Gir Forest. In 2012, M Lingaraju (40) was hacked to death in Bangalore, after he exposed illegal assets acquired by a city corporator. Over the years, many anti-graft activists have been murdered or assaulted upon exposing corruption based on findings from Right To Information (RTI) applications made by them. If this couple were ever to get separated in the future, when they reunite, they can piece the two halves together, and the completed hairpin would serve as a proof of their identities as well as a symbol of their reunion. During the wedding ceremony, some Chinese couples exchange a lock of hair as a pledge, while others break a hairpin into two parts, and then, each of the betrothed take one part with them for keeping. In Han culture, people call the union between two people jie-fa ( Chinese: 結髮), literally "tying hair". Hair has always carried many psychological, philosophical, romantic, and cultural meanings in Chinese culture. After the wedding ceremony, the husband should put the hairpin back into his spouse's hair. At the time of an engagement, the fiancée may take a hairpin from her hair and give it to her fiancé as a pledge: this can be seen as a reversal of the Western tradition, in which the future groom presents an engagement ring to his betrothed. While hairpins can symbolize the transition from childhood to adulthood, they were closely connected to the concept of marriage as well. In the 21st century hanfu movement, an attempt to revive the traditional Han Chinese coming-of-age ceremonies has been made, and the ideal age to attend the ceremony is twenty years old for all genders. In comparison with ji li, the male equivalent known as guan li ( Chinese: 冠禮) or "hat initiation", usually took place five years later, at the age of twenty. However, if a young woman had not been consented to marriage before age twenty, or she had not yet participated in a coming of age ceremony, she would attend a ceremony when she turned twenty. This practice indicated that these young women could now enter into marriage. When they turned fifteen, they could be considered as young women after the ceremony, and they started to style their hair as buns secured and embellished by hairpins. Particularly, before the age of fifteen, girls did not use hairpins as they wore their hair in braids, and they were considered as children. This ceremony marked the coming of age of young women. In Han Chinese culture, when young girls reached the age of fifteen, they were allowed to take part in a rite of passage known as ji li ( Chinese: 筓禮), or " hairpin initiation". Furthermore, hairpins worn by women could also represent their social status. In ancient China, hairpins were worn by men as well as women, and they were essential items for everyday hairstyling, mainly for securing and decorating a hair bun. Hairpins (generally known as fa-zan Chinese: 髮簪) are an important symbol in Chinese culture. Gold phoenix hairpin found in the Ming dynasty tomb of Prince Chuang of Liang (梁莊王, 1411–1441), 15th century. The kinks enable retaining the pin during normal movements.Ī hairpin patent was issued to Kelly Chamandy in 1925. The length of the wires enables placement in several designs of hairstyles to hold the nature in place. The finished pin may vary from two to six inches in last length. Some hairpins are a single straight pin, but modern versions are more likely to be constructed from different lengths of wire that are bent in half with a u-shaped end and a few kinks along the two opposite portions. The hairpin may be decorative and encrusted with jewels and ornaments, or it may be utilitarian, and designed to be almost invisible while holding a hairstyle in place. Major success came in 1901 with the invention of the spiral hairpin by New Zealand inventor Ernest Godward. Such hairpins suggest, as graves show, that many were luxury objects among the Egyptians and later the Greeks, Etruscans, and Romans. Hairpins made of metal, ivory, bronze, carved wood, etc. The creation of different hairstyles, especially among women, seems to be common to all cultures and all periods and many past, and current, societies use hairpins. The earliest evidence for dressing the hair may be seen in carved " Venus figurines" such as the Venus of Brassempouy and the Venus of Willendorf. It may be used simply to secure long hair out of the way for convenience or as part of an elaborate hairstyle or coiffure.
